Aurea’s first piece begins in the ancient world.
Inspired by gold earrings from the Eastern Mediterranean of the 5th–4th centuries BCE, this design pays homage to a tradition of goldsmithing more than two thousand years old.
Ancient artisans combined hollow gold beads, intricate granulation, and sculptural hoop forms to create jewelry of remarkable richness and rhythm. Rounded volumes, meticulously arranged golden granules, and the warm play of light across gold became part of the distinctive visual language of Classical jewelry.
Aurea reinterprets this ancient tradition for the present.
We have preserved the elements that make these historic forms so compelling: generous golden beads, finely textured granulated details between them, and a hand-hammered surface that gives each bead its subtle, tactile character. The original form has been gently refined and simplified, creating a silhouette that feels at once ancient and distinctly modern.
Rather than seeking the flawless uniformity of a machine-polished surface, the hammered finish celebrates the trace of the hand. Its delicate irregularities catch and scatter the light, giving the gold a softer, more nuanced glow. Between each bead, finely worked granulated details introduce rhythm, texture, and an almost architectural sense of order.
This is not a reproduction of a single ancient jewel, but a contemporary interpretation—a dialogue with a goldsmithing tradition that has endured for more than two millennia.
Worn at the ear, the earrings carry the sculptural presence and sense of history associated with ancient gold jewelry, while remaining elegant, refined, and unmistakably contemporary.
